The Swachh Bharat Mission was launched on October 2nd 2014, To eliminate open defecation and improve solid waste management.
On completing a decade, PM Modi said on Wednesday that more than 12 crore toilets have been built and the scope of toilet coverage reached 100% from less than 40% in the country since the launch of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Swachh Bharat Mission In Detail:
October 2, 2014 saw the inauguration of the Swachh Bharat Mission, which aims to improve solid waste management and end open defecation.
PM stated that it was harmful to women’s health and safety, against human dignity, and disrespectful to the nation’s underprivileged, Dalits, and backward communities.
Speaking at the celebration of the SBM’s tenth anniversary, Mr. Modi stated that, up until ten years ago, over 60% of India’s population was forced to relieve themselves outside due to a lack of toilets.
Mahatma Gandhi emphasised on swachhta as which ensures a healthy life and a healthy society. Keeping this in mind, the Indian Government launched the Swachh Bharat Mission on October 2nd 2014.
The Mission covers all real and urban areas. The urban component of the mission is implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and the rural component by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation.
