Lok Sabha Speaker 2024 Updates: Om Birla Elected Again for the Second Term as Lok Sabha Speaker

Finally, the result came out and we got our next Lok Sabha Speaker. Let’s read some major facts about Lok Sabha Speaker 2024.

The Lok Sabha Speaker 2024 has been elected. Om Birla has again been elected as Lok Sabha Speaker 2024. The speaker Om Birla was selected in the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha held on this Wednesday.

The victor of this election was Om Birla, the nominee of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). He Defeated Kodikunnil Suresh of INDIA’s bloc in the voice vote and hence won the election. Currently, he will serve as both the lower house’s chief spokesperson and the head of the Lok Sabha.

Following his victory, Birla was led to the Speaker’s chair by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi (Leader of the Opposition party INDIA ), and Kiran Rijiju (Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed his name for this letter. On June 26, Om Birla, a BJP politician and NDA candidate, was chosen to serve as the 18th Lok Sabha’s speaker.

In the voice vote on Wednesday in the House, Birla defeated K Suresh, the nominee for the INDIA bloc. Other than Balram Jakhar (1985), Om Birla is the only speaker in the Lok Sabha to have served two complete terms. It is uncommon for this to happen because normally the opposition and the ruling party work together to choose the speaker of the Lok Sabha.

Om Birla is a three-time member of parliament representing Kota, Rajasthan. In the 17th Lok Sabha, he was selected as lok sabha speaker too. Mr. Birla was praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his ability to keep the House civil during his last term.

However, from the Speaker’s chair, Rahul Gandhi, the recently appointed Leader of the Opposition (LoP), emphasised the significance of “impartiality,” stating that it is a non-democratic idea if you run the House efficiently by suppressing the voice of the Opposition.”
